What the heck is a Spud Wrench?

A Spud!?
Why, what an interesting question! You tell me!
What do you think you use it for?

Ah, eh, a Spud, well,...euh,...isn't it clear what it is used for, ...euh, you know...

Seriously, what is the difference between a monkey wrench and a spud wrench? Are they the same or not?

They are not the same...

sure looks the same ... xcept fr the pointy end, but then I googled "spud wrench" and came up with a whole lot of spuds without pointy ends - of course when I googled "monkey wrench" they tell me it's been replaced by "adjustable-head wrench", which is probably what a spud-wrench is, no?

so if I get this right: a monkey wrench is the classic version of a spud wrench - sort of like a horse being the classic version of a car

do I win something?

well, you use it to screw bolts, no?

A spud wrench is used to line up holes when you bolt things together. It is used in heavy construction primarily. One example of why a spud is a critical tool is this brief story:
An extremly heavy iron form is being set up. The first section a gang form, there are holes on the side to bolt them to the next piece; the crane flies this in place. A very silly man signals the crane in place and thinks to line the holes up with a finger- the crane lowers the piece and cuts off the man's finger. (really)
So a spud is useful if you like to use your fingers, it can support enormous weight and will make you look cool too! :)

Yes, yes... it also has a regular wrench head- it tends to be made out of material other than stainless steel though. Just high strength steel.

That made me laugh out loud! Thank you for your very instructive explanation on how to lose your fingers in a creative way. May I also suggest the use of a powersaw to cut your sandwich in half as another way?

There are many ways to dice and chop this is true... I was saving that as another exploration into proper tool use; you've quite deflated that idea thank you.

No not at all, I'm sure you can give many more examples and a proper explanation and as one can clearly see, the idea came from you.
